Xavier Intes

J. Erik Jonsson '22 Distinguished Professor of Engineering

Xavier Intes received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Bretagne Occidentale (France), where his research focused on the characterization of optical scalar wave propagation in highly diffusive media. He subsequently joined Professor Britton Chance’s laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania as a postdoctoral fellow. During this time, he held concurrent appointments in the Departments of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Radiology (under the mentorship of Prof. Britton Chance), and Astronomy and Physics (under the mentorship of Prof. Arjun Yodh). Dr. Intes later served as Director of Research at both the Medical Diagnostic Research Foundation and Optical Devices Inc. in Philadelphia, USA. He then joined Advanced Research Technologies Inc. as Chief Scientist. He has received the NSF CAREER Award and has been elected Fellow of AIMBE, OSA, and SPIE. His research has been supported by over $22 million in external funding as Principal Investigator, with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) as the primary institution, primarily funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP).
