David Corr elected to AIMBE College of Fellows

David Corr, a professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, has been elected to the College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE). David was selected for his innovative and transformative contributions to the study of skeletal muscle mechanics, musculoskeletal soft tissue engineering, and laser-based biofabrication. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and Chair of Tissue and Cellular Engineering (TCE) Technical Committee of the Summer Biomechanics, Bioengineering, and Biotransport Conference. 

Election to the AIMBE College of Fellows is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to a medical and biological engineer. The College of Fellows is comprised of the top two percent of medical and biological engineers. College membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to teaching, research, and innovation. AIMBE Fellows are employed in academia, industry, clinical practice and government. AIMBE Fellows are among the most distinguished medical and biological engineers including 3 Nobel Prize laureates, 17 Fellows having received the Presidential Medal of Science and/or Technology and Innovation, and 205 also inducted to the National Academy of Engineering, 105 inducted to the National Academy of Medicine and 43 inducted to the National Academy of Sciences.

Established in 1991, the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) is a non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., representing the most accomplished individuals in the fields of medical and biological engineering. AIMBE’s mission is to provide leadership and advocacy in medical and biological engineering for the benefit of society.

A formal induction ceremony was held during the AIMBE Annual Event at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Arlington, Virginia on March 27, 2023. David Corr was inducted along with 140 colleagues who make up the AIMBE College of Fellows Class of 2023.
