Dr. Doug Schumer joined the Biomedical Engineering Department as a professor of practice. Doug received his PhD from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and he has held numerous positions in industry over the last 35 years. His most recent position was at the Georgia Institute of Technology where he served as General Manager & COO of the Global Center for Medical Innovation, a spin-off of the Georgia Tech Enterprise Innovation Institute, and also as Director of Design Innovation and Instruction for the mechanical engineering department.
"Doug has a tremendous amount of expertise in the design and commercialization of biomedical products and we are excited that he will join our program.", says Juergen Hahn, the department head of Biomedical Engineering. Doug Schumer will contribute to the department's program by teaching classes related to product design and commercialization. Additionally, he will serve as the departmental undergraduate advising coordinator.
