Juergen Hahn has been named a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), the highest grade of membership. Members are nominated to this position in recognition of significant experience in, and service to, the field of chemical engineering.

Hahn’s research focuses on systems biology, and process modeling and analysis. He uses machine-learning algorithms to analyze complex data sets, which is how he previously discovered patterns with certain metabolites in the blood of children with autism that can be used to successfully predict diagnosis. Hahn and his research team have used a similar approach to evaluate the success of possible medical interventions for autism, and to analyze co-occurring conditions in children with autism.

Hahn is also an American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) fellow and a Computer Aids in Chemical Engineering (CACHE) trustee, and has recently accepted the position of deputy editor-in-chief of the Journal of Process Control.

He holds a joint appointment in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, and is a member of the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies at Rensselaer.
