Biomedical engineering is a relatively new engineering discipline which focuses on the application of engineering principles to human physiology. Bachelor Program

Biomedical Engineering B.S., B.S. with Minor in Management, B.S. with Minor in Data Science, B.S. Premed Option
Specializations: Biomaterials, Biomechanics, Biomedical Data Science, Bioimaging, and Medical Devices

Biomedical Engineering at Rensselaer is one of the oldest BME departments in the nation. For over 40 years, we have produced outstanding academics, industry leaders and research scientists. The department has undergone a rapid expansion over the last few years and plays a leading role in educating the biomedical engineering workforce of the future.

Students pursuing a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering have the option to specialize in one of five areas: Biomaterials, Biomechanics, Biomedical Data Science, Bioimaging, or Medical Devices.

B.S. with Minor in Management

The Lally School offers undergraduate minor programs for Rensselaer students majoring in biomedical engineering.

The biomedical engineering B.S. program can be combined with a minor in Data Science offered by the Industrial and Systems Engineering department.

Accelerated and Interdisciplinary Degree Programs

Biomedical Engineering and Medicine

The Biomedical Engineering Department, in conjunction with Albany Medical College, also offers the Physician Engineer (PE) program in which students are able to earn a B.S. in biomedical engineering from Rensselaer and an M.D. from Albany Medical College.

Co-Terminal Graduate Degree Program

The Co-terminal Graduate degree program offers Rensselaer undergraduates with strong academic records the opportunity to study for a master’s degree while completing their bachelor’s degree.
