Kathryn (Katie) Hollowood, a graduate student in the Biomedical Engineering Department working in Dr. Juergen Hahn's group has won the Most Impactful on Human Health award for her presentation given at the 44th Annual Northeast Bioengineering Conference which was held on March 28-30, 2018, at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. The title of her presentation was "Analysis of Metabolites from Blood Samples of Pregnant Mothers and Probability of Autism Diagnosis of the Child".

Dr. Xavier Intes has accepted the invitation to serve as a member of the Biomedical Imaging Technology - B study section of NIH's Center for Scientific Review. His term will run from July 2018 until June 2022.
According to NIH, study section members are selected based on the basis of their demonstrated competence and achievements in their scientific discipline as evidenced by the quality of research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals, and other significant scientific activities, achievements and honors.
- The Philosophy of a Doctorate Degree
The BME Department held the annual graduate student symposium yesterday. 10 research talks and 22 posters were presented by graduate students during this half-day event. The quality of the talks and posters was excellent and the competition for awards was fierce.
- Bringing the Operating Room into the Classroom
Two faculty members of the Biomedical Engineering Department were honored at the 2017 Trustee Celebration.
Specifically, the honored faculty were:
- Ryan Gilbert (received School of Engineering 2017 Classroom Excellence Award)
- Juergen Hahn (appointed to IEEE Control Systems Society Board of Governors)
