Elizabeth Blaber has been award a NASA Space Biology grant for her work on "Unraveling the Role of Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Senescence on Inhibition of Tissue Regeneration During Spaceflight and Amelioration by a Novel Countermeasure, PQQ". The $900k grant is a collaboration with OUHSC and UAB.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY invites applications for two tenure-track/tenured faculty positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor levels.

Xi Fang, a doctoral student in Dr. Pingkun Yan's DIAL lab, has received the Young Scientist Award from The Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) Society.

The Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) Society announced a collaborative paper from the DIAL and AXIS labs, “Cross-modal Attention for Multi-modal Image Registration” as Medical Image Analysis Best Paper Award runners up (Medical Image Analysis with IF 13.8).

The paper is authored by Xinrui Song, Hanqing Chao, Xuanang Xu, Hengtao Guo, Sheng Xu, Baris Turkbey, Bradford J. Wood, Thomas Sanford, Ge Wang, and Pingkun Yan. 

Ryan Gilbert and Ed Palermo have been awarded an NSF grant on "Polymerized Estrogen Microfibers in Injectable Hydrogels for Astrocyte-Mediated Neurite Guidance and protection." This is a three-year grant with a budget of over $400k. 

 

Rensselaer Polytechnic’s senior design students Taylor Keyt, Katrina Bliss, Ali Bisaccia, Sonya Heldman, and Grady Habicht received the NCI Cancer Prize for their project, Neurosafe, from the 11th annual Design by Biomedical Undergraduate Teams (DEBUT) Challenge:

 

Dr. Juergen Hahn, professor and BME department head, and BME professor Dr. Mariah Hahn have been elected to the 2022 Class of BMES Fellows. BMES awards Fellow status to members who demonstrate exceptional achievements and experience in the field of biomedical engineering and hold a record of membership and participation in the Society. The 2022 Class of Fellows will be honored during the BMES Annual Meeting on Thursday, October 13 this year.

Dr. Pingkun Yan has been named the P.K. Lashmet Career Development Chair. The endowed professorship recognizes an exceptional faculty member early in their career who exemplifies a great commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentorship.
