The paper "Quantitative imaging of receptor-ligand engagement in intact live animals" was chosen as the cover story for Issue 286 of the Journal of Controlled Release. The paper is a collaboration between Rensselaer and Albany Medical College and is authored by Alena Rudkouskaya, Nattawut Sinsuebphon, Jamie Ward, Kate Tubbesing, Xavier Intes, and Margarida Barroso. 

Alexis Ziemba, a graduate student in Dr. Ryan Gilbert's group, has received one of the 2018 BMES Career Development Awards. The Rensselaer Board of Trustees has approved Ryan Gilbert's promotion to the rank of Professor. Ryan Gilbert joined the Rensselaer faculty in 2010 as an assistant professor and he was promoted to associate professor in 2013. In 2012, Dr. Gilbert received the Faculty Early Career Development Award (CAREER) from the National Science Foundation. Dr. Gilbert serves as an associate editor of the journal Cells, Tissues, and Organs, and chairs a Department of Veterans Affairs Panel, Rehabilitation and Research and Development-Regenerative Medicine. The Graduation reception is held at the Academy Hall Auditorium on May 18, 2018 to celebrate the achievements of the students graduating this year. A total of 109 students are graduating with a BS, 22 with a Masters, and 10 PhDs are awarded. The number of students receiving degrees of all three types is at a record level, reflecting the popularity of the program. One of the BME design teams advised by Dr. Eric Ledet has been selected to participate in the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Coulter College Program on August 2-5, 2018. The program will be held at Medtronic in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The student team members are Katerina Kradinova, Jennifer Vincent, Khaled Abdoun, and Michael Arboleda. Bridging Athletics and STEM through Biomechanics

BME Faculty Highlights Series Professor John Drazan and Outreach Activities This article is the sixth in a series aimed at spotlighting the faculty in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at RPI. In this series, we will highlight biomedical research areas, cutting edge engineering techniques, student and trainee successes, as well as the broader societal impacts of the work in BME.

Two biomedical engineering faculty have been selected to receive awards from the School of Engineering. Ge Wang will receive the Outstanding Professor of Engineering award and Mariah Hahn the Research Excellence award. The award ceremony will be held at the SoE Faculty Achievement and Recognition Dinner on Wednesday, April 25th, 2018.

Devan Puhl has been awarded one of the prestigious National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowships (NSF GRFP) for her graduate studies at Rensselaer. She is a first year student working in Dr. Ryan Gilbert's lab on biomaterials for nerve repair. Furthermore, a former undergraduate Rensselaer BME student, Carolyn Chlebek, who is now a graduate student at Cornell University has also been awarded the NSF GRFP.
