Xavier Intes and Margarida Barroso have been selected for funding of a new NCI R01 grant focusing on "AI enhanced lifetime-based mesoscopic in vivo imaging of tissue molecular heterogeneity". This is a 5-year grant with a budget of $3.9M and it is a joint effort between RPI, where Xavier is the PD and AMC, where Margarida serves as PI.

Jenny Ferina, a doctoral student in Juergen Hahn's lab, and Jiajin Zhang, a doctoral student in Pingkun Yan's lab, have both received the Belsky Award for Computational Sciences and Engineering.

The School of Engineering at RPI awards four Belsky awards each year to graduate students with a strong academic record and outstanding contributions to computer science engineering.

Rob Roy was a long time faculty member in BME and also served as head of the department from 1985-1994. It is with sadness that we were informed of him passing away on December 5. His obituary is shown below:

Frank Peters, a doctoral student in Dr. Leo Wan's lab, has been awarded the American Heart Association predoctoral fellowship for his project titled, "Spatiotemporal patterns of cell chirality in cardiac asymmetric morphogenesis." This is a prestigious, peer-reviewed fellowship covering two years. More information on the AHA Predoctoral Fellowship can be found here: https://professional.heart.org/en/research-programs/application-information/predoctoral-fellowship

Elizabeth Blaber has been award a NASA Space Biology grant for her work on "Unraveling the Role of Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Senescence on Inhibition of Tissue Regeneration During Spaceflight and Amelioration by a Novel Countermeasure, PQQ". The $900k grant is a collaboration with OUHSC and UAB.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY invites applications for two tenure-track/tenured faculty positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor levels.

Xi Fang, a doctoral student in Dr. Pingkun Yan's DIAL lab, has received the Young Scientist Award from The Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) Society.
