The department congratulates the graduates of the class of 2024 who received their degrees during commencement on Saturday, May 18. We were pleased to honor the graduates at the departmental graduation luncheon on Friday, May 17.

Dr. Andrés Muñoz-Rojas will be joining our department as an assistant professor this summer.

Andrés received his BS in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania and his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Yale. He is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School in the Department of Immunology, where he studies the role of regulatory T cells in regulating tissue homeostasis and repair.

Leo Wan's group recently published a paper on "Helical vasculogenesis driven by cell chirality" which was published in Science Advances. This work is a collaboration between Leo's group and Alejandro Adam's group at AMC and involved the graduate students Haokang Zhang and Tasnif Raman.

The abstract of the work is:

David Corr, Professor of Biomedical Engineering, has been appointed the new director of the Center for Modeling, Simulation, and Imaging in Medicine (CeMSIM). A true interdisciplinary endeavor, the CeMSIM seeks to develop advanced  modeling, simulation and imaging technology for healthcare, and transition those technologies to clinical practice – from the lab bench to the hospital bedside. The CeMSIM has been developed with the following mission:

Madison Stiefbold, a doctoral

Joan Llabre, a doctoral candidate in Dr. Deepak Vashishth's Extracellular Matrix Lab, has been awarded the Koerner Foundation Fellowship. This fellowship recognizes her great contributions to the study of "Associations of Cognitive Dysfunction and Sleep Disturbances with Diabetes and Bone Fracture Risk".

The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. Areas of priority are neuroengineering,  immunoengineering, microbiome-engineering, and biomedical imaging. BME@RPI is one of the first programs of its kind in the country.
