Ryan Gilbert elected to AIMBE College of Fellows
Ryan Gilbert, a professor in the Biomedical Engineering department, has been elected to the College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE). Ryan was selected for his outstanding contributions to the development of biomaterials for neural tissue engineering applications and inclusive demographic representation within our profession.
David Corr named Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers
David Corr has been elected as a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The membership level of Fellow is the highest one awarded by ASME and recognized members for their outstanding engineering achievements.
Bowen Wang selected for ASBMR Young Investigator Award
Bowen Wang, a PhD student in Deepak's group, has been selected to receive the ASBMR Young Investigator Award for his abstract presentation "Fracture Risk in Type 2 Diabetes: Longitudinal Glycemic Control-based Prediction and Efficacy of Medications".

Juergen Hahn named Fellow of American Institute of Chemical Engineers
Juergen Hahn has been named a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), the highest grade of membership. Members are nominated to this position in recognition of significant experience in, and service to, the field of chemical engineering.
Deepak Vashishth named Fellow of the American Bone and Mineral Society
Deepak Vashishth has been named a fellow of the American Bone and Mineral Society. This honor is given to long-term members who have “made outstanding contributions to the field of bone and mineral science.”
Juergen Hahn named Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Process Control
Juergen Hahn has accepted the position of deputy editor-in-chief of the Journal of Process Control. This international journal publishes wide-ranging research on the application of control theory, operations research, and computer science and engineering principles as they relate to energy, nanotechnology, systems biology, biomedical engineering, pharmaceutical processing, and data analytics, to name a few.
Michael Bramson wins student paper award
Michael Bramson, a doctoral student in David Corr's group, has been selected for a Best Paper Award at the 2020 International Symposium on Ligaments & Tendons - XVIII, (the premiere tendon and ligament meeting), in Phoenix, AZ. He was the sole winner based on his podium presentation of his abstract:
"Hypoxia Improves Biomechanical Properties of Scaffold-Free Engineered Tendon Fibers" by Bramson MTK and Corr DT
The department congratulates the graduates of the class of 2020 who will be receiving their degrees during virtual commencement on Saturday, May 23. There is usually a departmental graduation ceremony held the day before graduation, however, due to the campus being closed, the department has instead put together a video about the graduating class which can be found here:
